Description:This module is designed to prepare the new instructor for preparation and the first few days of class. A component of Delmar’s Faculty Development Program, this module is directed to the novice instructor, or the instructor who is new to the adult learner student population. It is designed to orient the new instructor to the school, the student population, and to teaching in general. The training is abridged and focused on very specific elements that should lead to first day success. Topics include an overview of college teaching, preparing to teach, the first days of class, day-to-day classroom responsibilities and techniques, grading and assessment, and classroom management. Developed to enhance faculty skills for excellence in the classroom, this module includes reflective questions designed to encourage critical thinking and activities to assist instructors in assessing their own teaching, developing additional skills, and practicing strategies. Also included are ideas for elements to be included in a professional teaching portfolio, as well as encouragement for participating faculty to think about, develop, implement, and evaluate an instructional improvement plan. |
